       小萝卜头开始读书了。②手写的课文是爸爸编的;废纸改的本子是妈妈订的;半截铅笔是黄伯伯送的。小萝卜头可用功了,黄伯伯教的生字都会写,讲的数学习题全会算。好多天过去了,黄伯伯发现了一件怪事,③半截铅笔早该用光了, 可在小萝卜头手里却学会了长个儿,天天用,不见短。   

       原来,小萝卜头非常爱惜那半截铅笔,只有上课才用。下课怎么办?开始他用石块在地上写字,写得到处都是,擦起来很困难。后来,他拾到根铁钉,又用硬纸壳做了个盒子,装上沙,用铁钉在沙上写,这下可好了,写了,可以弄平再写。黄伯伯知道后夸奖他说:“你真聪明!”     

      小萝卜头跟黄伯伯学了两年,他的功课学得好极了,黄伯伯教的语文、数学、 俄语,他全都会。可是,在他九岁那年,全国解放前夕,他和爸爸妈妈却被反动派杀害了。
