Al Smith, Governor of New York State, was born very poorly. He had less education in school, but he worked very hard and won great successes. One day, he paid a visit for the state prison at Sing Sing. The head of the prison asked Mr. Smith say something to the prisoners. He has never spoken to this kind of audience before, so he did not know where to begin. Finally he said, “My fellow citizens…” and then he remembered that when a man goes to the prison, he is no longer a citizen. He began again, “My fellow prisoners…” That wasn’t sound right.
