     Li Yan's parents divorced (离婚) when she was only six years old. Two years later, her father got

married again and the stepmother (继母)wasn't kind to her. Her father didn't look after her well. So she

had to live with her grandmother. Sadly, her grandmother died five years ago. Her mother was ut into

prison (监狱) because of killing a person by mistake. What a poor girl! She became very lonely.    

     One day, she came home late. Her father became angry and hit her with a stick. Then he locked her

in the room. She cried and cried. No one came to help her. The next day, she climbed out through the

window while they were away. She ran away from the house. She was free. But where could she go?

She wanted to find a job to make some money,but she was too young. No one would give her the

chance. At night, she had nothing to eat. She was so weak that she fell down on the street.    

     When she woke up, she found herself lying on the bed. "Is it my home?" She looked around and

saw a smiling couple (夫妇). The couple gave her some delicious food to eat. They treated  her as

their own child. Now she is living with the couple happily.
